4lb Knot for Steelhead

Post by juicemanfta » 14 Mar 2018, 11:07

My First post on the board!

Hi guys what knot are you all using? I am having issue with knot slopping. I tested a few knot with 4lb lines and they all seems to slip (trilene, egg and san Diego). The knot seems to slip just around 3.5lbs

I have found myself using the davy knot. Super easy to tie and haven't had any slippage since using it .

Use a snell knot, won't ever slip if tied correctly and it places your hook in the best position for your hookset, especially when fishing beads! Good luck ;)

Cheers,

Mike

I tested 2 knots the Orvis and the Egg Loop Knot.

The (4lb) line broke without slippage at 3.8lbs
The Orvis knot slip at 5.4lbs…

Seems like the Egg Loop do weaken the line right at the knot.

Snell knot, and Egg Loop for beads, bags and skein on the hook, the Davy Knot on just about everything else. The Davy is fast and easy and very strong, never had it slip.

Any hook with offset eye should be shelled. This stiffens the connection and keeps hook in good position.

Palomar all day long. Best knot for lunch be strength retention. It doesn’t slip and the knots don’t break. The line still breaks though. Lol

I use palomar, hook to leader, leader to swivel, swivel to main line(not using shot line), no issues whatsoever

Davy knot for the win......It's strong and quick.....especially those cold days when your fingers feel frost bitten.

Snell. Better hook ups as the point of the hook is slightly tilted upward. If your Davie knot is slipping, try adding a simple overhand loop knot to the tag end and clip the excess similar to an arbour knot.
